How to make a 3D digger cake [Excavator cake]

We call them diggers, some people call them excavators, Richard Scarry called them power shovels.  Whatever you call them, if you want to make a cake like the one below then you're at the right place.

Yellow: Party Favors

I saw this post and thought a little make-it-yourself kit would be a great idea for party favors, especially when it's popped inside a cute little yellow polka dot paper bag.  Each kit contains the clothespins and craft sticks required to make two planes.  They were a big hit!

Yellow: Doiles and Diggers Birthday Party

Ruby turned 3 recently and we had a Yellow-themed birthday party (it's her favourite colour).  Here are some of the details ... make sure you scroll down to the cake - it's worth it, trust me.

I don't mean to boast but there were also balloons.  Yellow ones.  I didn't want to generate any party envy so didn't bother with photos of the balloons.

A little more about Pepper-Mae's Kokeshi Party ...

For the party favors I created little 'Kokeshi peg doll' kits, made up of a wooden clothespeg with a selection of fabric scraps, yarn and ribbon.  We also put in a chocolate treat and put the favors in floral paper bags sealed with washi tape.  The paper bags were from the $3 Japan shop in Auckland.

Pepper-Mae had her first birthday recently so we had a Kokeshi party.  The invitations were from Phantasy Art Studios, some free ones they had available which are no longer on the net.

As well as brownie and cupcakes, I made lolly sushi ...

A Kokeshi doll cake* ...

And my husband and I dressed up in clothes I got in Japan 20 many years ago ...

I decorated the wall above the sweet buffet with some cardboard painted brown and cut up to look like a cherry tree branch (like on the invitation). Annoyingly, I didn't get any pictures of the whole buffet decorated and laden with sweet treats but here's a photo with my real Kokeshi in the foreground ...
