I love the effect gained from variation in width as well as the randomness of fabric placement, so I think I really should try some improv piecing. I'm going to incorporate this into the back of Ruby's Granny Square Quilt, I love the idea of there being something in it that we created together.
Ruby is really enjoying this, she asks if we can sew something together and helps out by pulling scraps out of the brown bag and cutting the thread once scraps are sewn together, so I'm trying to think up other ways we can sew together - I'd love to hear any suggestions you may have for sewing with a 3 year old!
PS - there's still time to enter our current giveaway - the Sunday Funday Giveaway, open until Thursday afternoon (NZ time).

ReplyDeleteI can't remember back to when I was 3, but I do remember that not long after that, I had sewing cards that I loved. I just checked Amazon. If you put sewing cards or lacing cards into the search box, you can find them. I can't believe that they are still available in this high tech world. So cool!
Oh, and I just put 2 and 2 together on another idea. I literally just read a blog tutorial about painting HSTs onto wood blocks and then using them to design quilt blocks. The blogger said her kids couldn't wait to scoop in and play with them. You can find the tutorial here: http://charlottesgraceforacure.blogspot.com/2013/09/gray-matters-tutorial-with-giveaway.html?showComment=1379480684366#c4711047052718124073
ReplyDeleteNot sure I remember being 3?! But maybe some hessian sewing might be fun! Pull some threads out of the hessian to give a line to follow, a big needle with wool and see what happens? Pretty fabrics BTW!
ReplyDeleteYour scrappy strips are so cute! I remember sewing cards from about kindergarten age.
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun!!!
ReplyDeleteScrap is always fabulous... but I am very biased about this!
ReplyDeleteScrapilicious! I have a bin of HST's cast offs that I pre-sew before cutting off the inner corners. Perhaps this would make something scrapilicious?!
