It's a single bed quilt so there are going to be 24 blocks (4 x 6). Not all of these will make the final cut, I've been surprised by how different the blocks look on the wall and from a distance.
They are beautiful blocks, not sure I could cut any of them out. PS I've just clicked follow on Bloglovin'. I'm looking forward to seeing what you get up to :)
I think Granny Squares are my favorites :) Those are such wonderful colors and I can imagine it will be difficult elimination. I like Lorna's idea to add them to the backing. It would be a wonderful surprise!
I am stopping by from the WIP hop, my post is here if you have time to stop by :) http://domesticdeficitdisorder.blogspot.com/2013/07/wip-july-17th-edition.html
Very pretty! Yes, putting the ones you decide not to use for the front on the back of the quilt is a great idea. Alternatively, you could make a matching cushion for the quilt.
Thanks! They may be small but the piecing is very straightforward, so it doesn't take all that long at all. If I make another one, I will select about 6 fabrics, rather than having it so scrappy because I've found the scrappy selection process has taken a while. Blue Elephant Stitches has a strip-pieced version tutorial, which would make it a lot faster: http://www.modabakeshop.com/2013/02/granny-square-quilt.html
They are all very pretty though- wouldn't like to decide which ones to eliminate!
ReplyDeleteIt's certainly tougher than I thought it would be!
DeleteI really like your grannies! They have such a soft and vintage-y feel.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I've loved making them!
DeleteThey're all lovely. I agree it will be hard to make choices!
ReplyDeleteThank you, after everyone's encouraging words I may look to keep them all!
DeleteYour blocks look so crisp and beautiful. A design wall must be a wonderful help.
ReplyDeleteThank you. My 'design wall' is just a plain old wall, with the grannies held up by washi tape!

ReplyDeleteThank you for following, I've planning a great giveaway in the next month.
DeleteNice colors! great job.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
DeleteI love those grannie squares. Have yet to make any myself. Yours are sweet. If they don't make the cut, perhaps they could be pieced into the backing?
ReplyDeleteLorna:)

Thanks, I see your skill builder blocks are coming along nicely.

ReplyDeleteThanks, I've been thinking up ways to use the blocks that don't go into the quilt, and cushions are a definite possibility.
DeleteYour blocks are just adorable. I want to make one but all those small squares make me scared. One day though.

DeleteI really like the blue and yellow one and the blue-grey one. But they look lovely together to me. It'll be a really lovely quilt when it's finished.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I can't wait to get it finished.
